The Most Searched Lipstick Shade Of 2016

Do you follow The Zoe Report?
I get it in my inbox every day, I follow The Zoe Report on Instagram, and at the beginning of each season I receive the Rachel Zoe Box Of Style.

I recently read this article written by Andrea Navarro on The Zoe Report, and thought it was fabulous.

Red has long been the reigning lipstick color in the beauty world—it has the uncanny ability to take nearly any makeup look from plain Jane to bombshell status in an instant. However this year, a new shade has given the classic rouge a run for its money. According to an annual report conducted by Polyvore, searches for nude lipstick skyrocketed by 553%, making it the most searched color this year. This trend could mean that consumers are opting for more toned-down beauty looks, as nude hues are meant to resemble one’s natural lip color. To honor the newly crowned lipstick shade, we’ve compiled some of our favorite nudes for you to shop now.

The Perfect Nude Lips For Fall

fall-nudes
mskeup by Corinna Cooke

As much as we all need a killer red lip for fall, maybe a deep, sultry oxblood, we also all need a really good nude lipstick that's perfectly toned to work the cooler weather.

Our summer nude lips don't always work so well in autumn. They can look too chalky or too bare, and instead of complimenting our complexions they can suck the life out of them.
Look for a nude lip that has some warmth to it, and that isn't too yellow.

Here is a selection of my favorite nudes for fall.

Nars Satin Lip Pencil in Isola Bella
Apart from the fact that Isola Bella is right below Taormina in my much loved Sicily, I love the satin finish to this lip as well as the pinky undertone.
Available at Nordstrom

For a lip with a little more depth and a lovely suede finish try Charlotte Tilbury's taupe shade inspired by Victoria Beckham,
Matte Revolution Very Victoria

Chanel Rouge Coco in 402 Adrienne is a warm pinky nude that not only looks beautiful, but wears beautifully too.
Available at Nordstrom

For a touch of luxury with a sheen try Tom Ford Beauty Lip Color Shine in Frolic.

One of the absolute loveliest lip glosses I have worked with in a long time is Honest Beauty's lip gloss in Generous Kiss. It's a sheer pink nude with a great color pay off and a non-tacky, smooth gloss.

Lip Rescue! 5 Lipstick Quick Fixes

Lipstick might just be the ultimate beauty product.
You can lighten and brighten any look with a quick swipe of vibrant lip color. You can tone down a makeup look that is too bold with a soft lip. No time to put on makeup? No problem - throw on an over-sized pair of sunglasses and a bright lip and you are good to go!
Your lipstick can make or break your look.

But wearing lipstick does sometimes come with challenges, from your lips drying out, to bleeding, to making a mess all over your teeth. Here are 5 lipstick quick fixes.

Red-Lips-White-Teeth

Lipstick Problem: Your Lipstick Bleeds

Red-lips

Bleeding or feathering lipstick can totally blow your fabulous look. Here is the fix: powder around the outside of your lips to make sure your foundation or BB Cream is set. Line your lips with a skin toned nude liner, or with a liner to match your lip color.
Apply your lipstick with a lip brush, taking care to pull the lip brush through your lip liner, pressing the lipstick firmly into your lips.

Lipstick Problem: Your Lipstick Dries Out Your Lips

Lipstick-Quick-Fixes

Here is the fix: change your lipstick formula - maybe matte lips aren't your best look. Change your lipstick brand - some companies make really drying formulas. Or apply a super hydrating lip balm 20  minutes before you apply your lipstick, and allow it to really soak in. Gently blot with a flat tissue prior to applying your lipstick. If your lips still get dry, top them off with a thin veil of lip balm. Try Tatcha Camellia Nourishing Lip Balm

Lipstick Problem: Your Lipstick gets On Your Teeth

Lipstick-Quick-Fixes

Not only does it look awful, but it's embarrassing too! And we've all had it happen.
Here's the fix: Apply your lipstick with a lip brush. This helps to really press the lipstick into your lip. Next make your lips into an O shape, insert your index finger, wrap your lips around it, and pull your finger back out of your mouth. The lipstick that would have landed on your teeth will now be wrapped around your finger.

Lipstick Problem: Your Longwear Lipstick Won't Come Off

Red-Lips-White-Teeth

When your longwear lipstick doesn't want to come off it normally looks really awful too. Your lip looks dull and stained, and longwears tend to dry your lip out and make the product look chunky and gritty.
Here is the fix: Apply a layer of Vaseline Petroleum Jelly or some olive oil, and let it soak for 15 minutes before gently removing with a cotton pad. Quick makeup artist hack? Soak a cotton pad with Makeup Forever Sens Eyes, hold it against the lip for a few moments, then gently lift away the longwear lip stain.

Lipstick Problem: Your Lipstick Fades Too Quickly

Lipstick-Quick-Fixes

So you love that punchy, bright lipcolor, but it fades or looks uneven within a couple of hours?
Here's the fix: maybe it's the formulation? Try a super saturated lipstick with a strong color payoff like Temptu Color True Lips.
Or, prep your lips before you apply lipstick by making sure they are not too slimy with lip balm. After blotting fill the entire lip in with the matching lipliner to your lipstick. Apply a coat of lipstick, blot it with a folded tissue, then take a new tissue, separate the two layers into one ply, pres it against the lip and apply a thin veil or setting powder on top of the single ply tissue, then remove it and add another coat of lipstick. This should make your lip color hold.

Beauty Tip Of The Week #14 ~ Four Lipstick Mistakes To Avoid

There is nothing quite like lipstick to wake up and brighten your face.

Feeling tired or under the weather? A bright, vibrant lip will quickly add a little spark to your visage and can breathe life into a flat complexion.

Running to the store with no makeup on? A pretty, lively lipstick can make you look immediately put together.
Making the walk of shame the morning after the night before? A pair of sunglasses and a bold lip will have you strutting out like you own the deal instead of slithering away into the shadows with your un-madeup face turned down.

Lipstick is fantastic.
But you need to watch out for the 4 main lipstick mistakes to avoid:

fuchsia-Lips

1. Straying Outside The Lines
Letting your lipstick wander out over the lipline leaves you looking either like you've been gnawing away on chicken wings, or that you let a five year old put your lips on.
Shape your mouth with a lipliner and apply your lipstick with a lipbrush. A well defined mouth is much more alluring!

2. Lip Liner Too Dark
There was this icky time back in the 90's where women wore exaggerated dark lipliner. It looked stupid then and it looks stupid now.
Find a lipliner close to your lip shade. Ideally build out you lip with a complimentary shade of nude, but if you are using a colored lip liner keep it very close in color to your lipstick.

3. Find Your Flattering Shade.
You need to choose a lipstick color that compliments your skin tone. Warm based lips for warm based skins and cool based lipsticks for cool toned skins.
If you have thin lips or if you are a little older avoid dark lipsticks - they will age you quickly and make your lips look thin, pursed and angry.

4. Lipstick On Your Teeth
When you break out into a big, gorgeous grin you don't want to kill the moment with lipstick all over your teeth!
Three ways to avoid this are: blotting your lips after applying lipstick, wearing lipstick formulas that aren't too slippery, and after applying lipstick wrap your lips around your index finger and executing your best porn-star impersonation pulling your finger out of your mouth.

Pucker up!

Bridal Beauty Tip #9 How To Choose The Perfect Lipstick For Your Wedding

Choosing the perfect lipstick for your wedding day can seem tricky.
You have the dress, the flowers, the hairdo, hopefully all telling the same story, and now you have to bring the whole look together with your makeup.
Your lipstick choice can really make or break your entire look. Should you go bold or should you go nude? Should you opt for a matte lip or should you try glossy lips?

How To Choose The Perfect Lipstick For Your Wedding Day

1. Be True To Yourself
Your wedding day is probably not the best day to get all the way out of your lipstick comfort zone.
If you don't normally wear much color, this is not the day to try out a new red.
If you are a big lipstick girl chances are you will feel washed out with a naked lip.
Choose a color that is in keeping with your wedding makeup, that enhances your skin tone, that doesn't make your teeth look yellow, and that makes you feel lovely.

2. Marry With Moisture
Your lips will be a big focus on your wedding day. You will be talking more than usual, kissing and air kissing, posing for pictures, smiling - you name it! You will also probably get a very dry mouth.
A matte lip will look dried out and cracky as the event progresses, and unless you are a matte-lip-pro it can flatten your entire look.
An over glossy lip can look tacky, and he's probably going to be wondering if he'll get covered in slimey stuff if/when he kisses you.
Instead look for a lipstick with a subtle sheen or satin finish, that looks moist and makes the lip look alive and inviting.

3. Layer Your Lip
If you are prone to eating off your lipstick, think about staining the lip with a longwear color and complimenting it with a subtle gloss. If you are wearing a deeper or bolder color, staining the lip underneath will help you to maintain the color and will require less time infront of a mirror repairing your lipstick.
Most longwear lipsticks are super drying, so make sure you have either a gloss or a satin finish lip to put on top.
Plenty of my brides don't wear lipstick in their day to day life, so a longwear lip works perfectly. They just keep their chapstick/lip balm with them and top up when ever their lip feels dry.

4.Nude no's
Nude lips can be fabulous, especially when paired with a stronger eye, but there are a few things to consider.
* if you normally wear color on your lips you will feel naked in a nude.
* use a nude that compliments your skin tone
* never choose a nude that is paler than your natural lip color
* nudes that look like concealer are never flattering

5. Buy it
You will need to touch up your lips after your makeup artist leaves, and throughout the evening. After you do your makeup trial, buy the lipstick your makeup artist used and bring it with you on your wedding day.

6. Trial
Make sure you have a trial makeup session prior to your wedding day. Wear the lipstick or lip gloss that your makeup artists tries on you, and see how it looks as the day progresses. Does it pill up? Does it dry and crack? Does it look tacky and sticky? Or does it look fabulous on you?
